Your Painting

Musique des Sphères (Music of the Spheres) is a luminous and rhythmically composed work by French-Italian artist Maryse Casol, painted in 2007. The composition reflects the artist’s enduring exploration of harmony, vibration, and chromatic resonance — a visual translation of musical structure into painterly form.

The work was executed using Sennelier oil pigments manufactured in Paris at 3 Quai Voltaire, directly facing the Louvre — materials historically favored by masters such as Degas, Cézanne, and Picasso. Casol’s deliberate choice of these pigments reinforces her attachment to the great European painting tradition while asserting a distinctly contemporary voice.

The canvas is mounted on a custom linden wood stretcher crafted by Italian artisan Bambino Gianfrancesco of Les Cadres et Moulures Majestic, Montreal. Linden wood, prized for its structural stability and resistance to climatic variation, ensures exceptional longevity compared to conventional pine supports.

“Linden wood is the strongest and most stable support; ordinary canvases are usually mounted on pine, a lighter wood prone to deformation over time.” — Maryse Casol

The Voyage

2015
In 2015, Musique des Sphères was gifted to Dr. Pietro Di Battista, Montreal, a close friend of the artist’s family. The work has remained in his private collection since that time.

2013
In November 2013, the Paris office of Google invited Maryse Casol to participate in its newly launched Google Open Gallery initiative. In December of that year, Musique des Sphères was featured on the platform (now Google Arts & Culture), allowing international audiences to examine the painting through high-resolution zoom technology.

2008
The painting was reproduced in the Maryse Casol Paintings and Silk Scarves Catalogue and was presented at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts boutique in August 2008.

2007
Painted in 2007, the work belongs to a significant period of increasing visibility for the artist. On December 4, 2007, a curated presentation of Maryse Casol’s paintings was held at Ristorante Buonanotte in Montreal, gathering prominent figures from the city’s cultural and professional circles. The exhibition contextualizes the moment in which Musique des Sphères emerged within the artist’s broader body of work.
